Dues Update - Christmas Meeting

Our Dues will be going up to $75 a year. It will be the same for our associate members as well. Everyone will be getting a port supply card( including associate members). We will also be rejoining NACO. ( the reason for going up $15 on our Dues. NACO is a national organization, it benefits us to be tied in with them. They have always had the Charter industry’s back.

We will be having our annual December Christmas meeting/ dinner again this year. Details will be forthcoming when we finalize the plans.

Fall Meeting Dates

Welcome back, we hope you had a great season. Our first meeting will be next Thursday, 6:30 pm. 10/19 downstairs at the Starboard Galley in Newburyport. Im sure we all have a few fish stories to share, or the “best” and “ worst” customer stories to talk about.

Our first meeting back is generally a get together to swap stories of this season, and to figure out our meeting schedule for the year.

Our Port Supply card was beneficial in savings over the season. If there are any issues, topics you would like to see addressed please let us know. Bring any and all ideas next week so we can plan the meetings.

Changed to Thursday

Our January meeting will be on A Thursday night 1/19 at 6:30 pm Starboard Galley.

We will be talking about proposed upcoming changes to the mackerel fishing and how it will effect us.

Thanks to all who showed up for our December meeting/dinner. It was a fun night for all. Thanks to Russ Lakey we had a number of items to raffle off.

We moved the meeting to Thursday night because the Galley had a prior commitment on Wednesday night. We can also discuss if Thursday night works better for our members.

Subject: May Association Newsletter

May meeting is next Wednesday , May 18 at 7 pm. Starboard Galley.

Open Discussion meeting on boating and or fishing gadgets that work for you. May will be our last meeting until next fall. If you have any ideas for our meetings when we pick up again in the fall let Scott or myself know. We will start collecting dues again next winter. John Carrey has taken over for Jon Parkhurst as our Association Treasurer.

May is finally here and hopefully your ready for the season. Hopefully we will start to have some warmer weather and less wind.

I am happy to announce ,I will soon be a Dealer/Installer of Dek-it marine flooring. I hope to be up and running by mid July.

March Newsletter 2022

I am pleased to announce that we had a decent number of members show up to our first meeting in two years. It was nice to reconnect with each other.
Our format will be a bit more social than in the past. We had an open discussion on the rising fuel prices and its effect on our business. We also talked about the importance of having a good mate/crew on trips. Our other discussions included striper regs and proposed mackerel regulations.
Any members interested in learning about outboard maintenance and repair, Whittier Vocational School in Haverhill offers an adult evening course. You receive a certificate from yamaha upon completion. Contact Whittier for schedule of upcoming courses. They are also starting a Marine tech major for high school students starting this fall.
Our next meeting will be held on Thursday April 21, at 7 pm at the Starboard Galley . Lynn Collins of southern NH drug testing will be joining us to talk about her company in Hampton NH. They provide drug testing and CG physicals. Their web site is www.snhdrugtesting.com if you would like more info.
Member John Carey has volunteered to take over as treasurer for the association. Scott Maguire and myself will be sharing responsibilities in running the association.

March 2022 ncca newsletter

We would like to meet again as an association. We have not met in the last 2 years due to covid-19, and the fact that we had no one willing to assume any of the board positions.

As a former President, we decided to keep our current members status quo for the last 2 years. No dues were required.

I have decided to once again help run the Association along with Scott Maguire. We would like to hold a meeting next Wednesday March 16 at the Starboard Galley in Newburyport At 7 pm.

Please join us as we discuss the future of the association and what direction we take moving forward.

New Guide Lines

1) Everyone on board must wear a mask

2) Cleaning stations on board to wash hands

3) Maintain social distancing as best as possible

4) Clean and disinfect the boat and equipment minimum daily and keep a cleaning log

5) Keep a log of your passengers

6) Max of 10 people on board including Capt and Crew

7) If you or your guest show symptoms, cancel the trip

8) Post signage about Covid 19 Protocols

A few other updates to mention/consider about the closure:

1. If you are chartering during this period, your insurance will NOT cover you in the advent you need it

2. The penalties are stiff:

• non-criminal fine is $200.

• The criminal fine is $400-10,000 and up to 3-years imprisonment.

• Most likely and immediate outcome will be permit sanctions. DMF can revoke or suspend for violating permit conditions. The sanction will likely occur immediately (with a hearing to follow) given the public heal

Covid 19 and how it effects us as charter boat captains

Good Morning,

As I'm sure most of you are aware, yesterday Gov. Baker restricted For-HIre Vessels from operation during the home advisory and essential business executive order. He also extended the order from May 4th til May 18th.

Here is a quick break down of the letter:

• All charter boats (fishing, cruising, kayaking, sailing, etc...) are not permitted to run for hire trips

• Recreational fishing - Only members of the same household may be on the boat. Every person on board must have a saltwater fishing license as your charter permit is not in effect during this period.

• Commercial Fishing - is deemed essential and allowed. If you have a tuna or striped bass endorsement, I have not received a concrete answer yet if these situations count as the seasons start after June 1 and June 24th respectively

I understand that this is an unfortunate situation. Luckily, at the moment, May 18th is still early enough for most of us to still have a full season. I am in contact with various charter associations to see what our next steps are to ensure we get back on the water.

Regardless of any political opinion, scientific data, etc... as of this moment,this is a direct order from the commonwealth to restrict charters until May 18th. I'm looking to find more clarity on what will actually happen if you are caught running charters. So far I have been told you must end the trip, pay a fine, and even have your license revoked. Massachusetts re-released the order on Thursday to include recreational trips to only include members of your household.

Regardless of your feelings towards COVID - 19, this emergency order is to ensure safety and well being of our passengers which should be our top priority on every one of our trips. I highly suggest everyone follows the rules until further notice from the commonwealth. The "buddies" or "recreational - under the table" trips will still be unlawful given the parameters set by only people living in the same household. Just remember this time of year as well there are virtually no boats in the water and if you decide to sneak one in, chances are one of the authorities will see your boat and inspect and inquire.

Hopefully, we can get gain some ground over the short term and fight to make changes but at the moment it is what is. Like I said, groups are working behind the scenes and trying to fight back (as we have been the past month with regards to PPP and SBA allowance).

I will update you with new news as it comes in.

Until then please stay safe and hopefully on May 19th we will be seeing each other on the water again.
